The King: 80 Years of a Racing Legend

The Courier-Tribune, in partnership with the Richard Petty Museum and the Petty Family Foundation, is proud to present The King: 80 Years of a Racing Legend, a limited-edition hardcover book on the life and legacy of Richard Petty.

While working with the Petty Family and the Petty Family Foundation on potential projects, a desire to communicate a behind-the-scenes-look at Richard’s life — one that the public has never seen before, along with stories of “Growing Up Petty” — always came up. The Petty Family was excited to share never-before-seen personal photos from their family albums along with stories that extend from Level Cross, North Carolina, all across the country from racetrack to racetrack as we chronicled the life and times of life-long Randolph County resident Richard Petty. The Courier-Tribune was excited to work on putting together this special project and to help tell the story. 

Get the 176-page hardcover collector’s book that includes never-before-seen photographs that capture a behind-the-scenes look of Richard’s childhood years, his championship seasons, growing up Petty, and the legacy he’s built and continues to build for generations of racing fans as we celebrate his 80th birthday in 2017.
